I started to answer off the top of my head, then realized I didn't
REALLY know what I was talking about, consulted the web, and found this
link:

Which has a lot of good background information on galvanic corrosion.
After a few minutes of browsing, I found this one:

Which has a hierarchy of metals according to their galvanic index.
You'll see zinc is way at the bottom, together with Magnesium and
Beryllium, and somewhat lower than aluminum (which is also low). I take
this to mean that zinc is better cathodic protection than aluminum.
However, Aluminum will probably still work. Note that position in the
list is inversely related to the value of galvanic index, so metals
which are low on the list have high galvanic indices. Higher galvanic
index makes a better sacrificial anode.

I have been told that aluminum anodes are as good as zinc in salt water
environment.Has anyone personal experience of aluminum anodes?
