[Public-list] Turnbuckle

I have used Lanocote to lubricate and protect locations where there is
contact between dissimilar metals (like shroud terminals, turnbuckles,
and places where fasteners enter the mast). I love the stuff. It's not
like McLube, Silicone, WD-40, or Boeshield. It's a paste kind of like
grease. I think it's made from lanolin. It's great stuff. It comes in a
little tin. You can buy it at most marine stores. I bought mine at APS:

Bill,
If you need to replace the fittings either swage or Sta lock type
fittings.
I would suggest that the wire is replaced at the same time. The wire is
extremely inexpensive by the foot, then the rigging would be new.
I would also lubricate your new turnbuckles with McLube or another type
of
dry lubricate during installation. Also when making up the new rigging,
use
a marine type silicone in the Sta Lock fitting and Loctite on the
threads.
The silicone will keep the water out of the fitting and extend the life
of
the wire. Also the lower shrouds are different in length (fore and aft)
use
the one removed as a template for the new wire and consider some stretch
in
the old wire when measuring.

Suggest use Norsemen or Stalock end fittings - eyes on the upper part of
the
lowers and where ever else you need to shorten. Cheers, John
