Here in Quantico we are still recovering from Hurricane Isabel and the
boats are still on the hard. We will not get put back in the water
until 5 June when the contractor has decreed that he wants our space for
staging his equipment. In the meantime we are treating it as being
rafted up on the hard. The Columbia next to my Delphi has dropped an
anchor into a tray of sand and has put out fenders. As soon as my
topside painting is done, I will put out fenders also and we will rig
the appropriate bow, stern and spring lines. After the day's boat work
is done, a number of us repair to our respective cockpits for cocktails
and to enjoy the sunset on the Potomac. Its easy to pretend that we
have been sailing in some exotic area and are rafted up after a great
beam reach. The good thing about being rafted up on the hard is there
are no wakes, so the rum and coke doesn't spill.
