The boats were designed this way. Since only the forward part of the mast 
sits on the beam, I always recommend that the mast base be pushed as far 
forward as possible. This also reduced excessive weather helm.

I mentioned this last month but got no responses so am trying again.On Tait 
Tait #478 the beam that supports the mast is forward of the mast not 
squarely beneath it .Is this a design feature or a design /manufacturing 
fault?
