[Public-list] Pricing your Alberg

Greetings,
I've been following the discussion about selling prices. I bought #249
in Astoria, OR, a few years ago and part of my research included checking
other boats for sale around the US, but also I referred to the used boat
price guide-- I forget the name: it's the Blue Book for boats which gives
price ranges for boats in essentially good condition with variables factored
in re: engine, overall condition and improvements. Also there was an
adjustment factor for whichever part of the country one was in.
Those bits of research all together, generally, gave me what turned out
to be a reasonable range of prices while shopping.
I would use that same technique when selling time comes 'round.

Other thoughts: Wouldn't' this time of year be not the best for
selling? It's near the holidays, the economy is dropping off, and boats are
definitely luxury items (for many of us, anyhow). Also, showing a boat on a
cold, rainy day doesn't help it to look its best, nor do those conditions
inspire buyers.
I agree that engine type and hours makes a significant difference.
And yes, one should absolutely hire a surveyor-- many insurance
companies require a survey, too.

    Cheers,

Randy Katz
