John,
Good overview, but from bitter experience (at least up here where -30C
is not uncommon), the instructions for winterizing the head are somewhat
sparse. There is only one specific way to carry out this task.
From outside, run a PVC hose from the anti-freeze container directly
into the intake thru'hull, making sure that the hose seats well
(tightly) in the fitting. Make sure all internal valves are set either
for overboard or holding tank discharge. Throw the lever on the pump
pedestal to pump raw seawater (i.e. anti-freeze) until the bowl is good
and full. Then throw the lever to whatever position flushes the bowl.
Pump away. Overboard dischargers should see the results outside, while
holding tank owners will see the antifreeze collected in the tank. Job
done!
FWIW.
Cheers
