First, I would like to thank all of you who sent me your sympathy and
encouragement, and even a Thai chant for Alberg #306 that was hauled at the Spice
Island Marina, Grenada at the time Hurricane Ivan devastated the island.
Almost a month later, Alberg30 hull # 306 was found at the bottom of a pile
of yachts. It was righted again in the boat yard.
For those of you who encouraged with the fact that the Alberg30 hulls were
built to the highest of standards (Thank you Whitby Boat Works, Canada) I am
pleased to report that you were correct!
I have just received pictures that show that my hull was not damaged. I
lost my mast, deck stanchions and a lot of interior damage, but the floating
part after being slam-dunked by Mother Nature seems to be intact.
I hope none of you ever have to see your vessel ravaged by a hurricane. It
is reassuring, however, that we all own a boat that can sustain such a
disaster. Over 100 vessels on and around Grenada were total insurance losses.
I shall be returning to Grenada October 25th to begin the resurrection
of my boat. If anyone can supply me with the Alberg30 mast dimensions and the
procurement of a used or new mast, I'd be most obliged.
 Thanks again,
Dave Ferneding
COOBER PEDY # 306
