Subject: Re: [Public-list] Water weeping from keel
The area below the sole in the V-berth, at least, was filled with scrap
iron
(steel?) for weight and then filled with a concrete made from a lightweight
aggregate. The concrete was then covered with a fiberglass reinforced
polyester sole. This lightweight concrete is much more porous than regular
weight
concrete. If there is any way water can get into the concrete (ours leaked
in at
the weep hole from the anchor rode locker), it would drain out when the
boat
"is on the hard".
I removed the old deteriorated fiberglass sole, allowed the concrete to dry
with the aid of heat, and then recovered with new fiberglass. No trouble
since
