[Public-list] rope life lines

Has anyone had experience with "rope lifelines?"  An article in Practical 
Sailor March 2003, (haven't seen article, just heard about it), address the 
possibility.  I need new lines and was just wondering.  sounds like it's 
less expensive, but wonder about durability, cosmetics, stretch, wear, etc.  
Any ideas?
