[Public-list] Leech line when reefed?

Howdy,
    A basic question-- how do others trim the leech line of the main when
sailing with a reef in ?  With windier weather this question comes up again.
With the first reef tied in, and the leech fluttering, there's no simple way
to trim it as the end I can reach is all bound up.
    I thought of  tying in a loop or something at the first reef to throw
bungy cord on to, but this seems less than elegant-- and I certainly wish to
be elegant on all points of sail.
    Any suggestions?
