[Public-list] Repowering Options

I went through much the same thought process. Looked into Beta Marine
and liked what I saw, but could figure out how I could justify
$!0-12,000 for repowering. I do not have the time, skills or equipment
to do it my self. I got lucky, I think. I found a virtually new A4 - 25
years old but with only seven seasons of use and about 500 hours max on
it sitting right here in Travere City owned by someone I know and trust
- very serious aboiut maintenance - and always in freshwater. In it went
and off I went. Engine was reaonably priced ($1600). Labor did run up
because the old A 4 was a bear to get out and other complciations arose
because the old salt encrusted thing that was rotting through from the
inside. Now I think I have engine power till I am well past 80 - If i
keep oil in it etc. this expesne made sense for a boat that I got for
under $9000. Anyway, that is my experience.

When considering all of the possible repowering options, it is hard to
beat
the economics of restoring the A4. Look at what Atomic 4 Engine
Service
located in Vancouver, Canada offers through the link below. For approx
$4,000 US plus shipping costs, these guys will completely rebuild your
A4 to
better than new condition (includes electric fuel pump, new water
pump,
starter, coil, carburetor, alternator and more). After looking into
other
alternatives, including Don Moyers service, I am pretty much convinced
that
this is the way to go, both from a financial and practical point of
view.

Any comments appreciated.
