[Public-list] Genoa Track Leingth

I am thinking of replacing my Genoa tracks and wonder if they need to be 8" long (like the current SS ones) or if they can be shorter.  I recall they overlap with the short, deck mounted, inner tracks.  Are there advantages to having overlapping inner and outer tracks or can the outer track start at the aft end of the inner track (this is starting to sound like a belly button discussion, so, I'll stop here)?
