Jonathan -
  I tried and failed to find a spec on your engine that might give the gear
ratios in forward and reverse. Typically reverse will be  2 or 3, if forward
is direct.  If that's true then you can't run it in reverse, it would be
like running your car in first gear all the time.

Even if it is direct, it's unlikely that the gearing is completely
symmetrical for forward and reverse. It must be designed to spend most of
it's life in forward. I think you need a new prop!

    PS. Sorry I meant running the engine in Reverse GEAR to get forward 
momentum.
