Ummm....Well there is a runout spec. for the thrust bearing in the 
transmission. The weight of the shaft, wheel, etc. would affect that. I 
suppose you could jack up the prop. end to compensate, though.

Probably easier just to use feeler gauges after the final install...  that 
should be done after boat has been in water for a while BTW, after the hull 
resumes it's normal shape.

I was on a tug once where the tail shaft jumped out of column 1 1/2 " after 
unbolting from the clutch. Really impressed the machinists-they are used to 
tolerances of thousandths of an inch. At the time, I didn't know any better.
