Steam: Why not replace the keels with lead and add some U238 rods and go 
nuclear - that would provide ample power and you could find yer boat in a 
marina at night by the dull blue green glow ; )

I would wait until the technology improves before switching from gas or 
diesel to an alternate power source. $4,000 - $10,000 for a new motor seems 
more affordable - and safer - 120V inverters and salt water - hmmmmmm - 
don't like the thought of that.
