[Public-list] PHRF rating

Gord it depends upon the PHRF fleet that you race in. The rules for
PHRF-LO (Lake Ont) are different from those of PHRF-LE (Lake Erie) on
things like the whisker pole length and spinnaker size. Thus the ratings
are not comparable or easily transferable, so I have a bit of a nightmare
getting a rating in Erie that I can use in Ont without a penalty in one
fleet or the other. As of Dec 15, 2003, PHRF standards for AL30 s in
PHRF-LO were 228 for white sails and 219 for spinnakers. That rating is
with a 163% (or smaller) genny . Figure out what they are using in GB and
you will be set to maximize things within the rules. (FYI, The GLAA has
adapted the class racing rules to PHRF standards in many areas, so that
our small racing fleet here will not be penalized if they race in PHRF
fleets, since there are more PHRF races than Alberg ones. We still have a
problem with roach on mainasails which we have not addressed in the class
rules.) If you want more, e-mail me off line and I will send you the class
rules we use here. They are different from the CCA rules used in the
Chesapeake.
