[Public-list] yanmar rear zinc removal

Stephen,
No, I have a 2QM15. It runs well but I suspect it was somewhat
neglected, although not to the extent the boat itself was. After a year
of working on the boat, and lots of advice from association members,
things are starting to come around. However, I feel that I need to bring
her home at the end of this season in order to accomplish, once and for
all, certain tasks such as rewiring, interior lighting, and port
replacement to name a few. But at this point I am worried about the rear
zinc. It won't budge and I don't want to break the bolt at this point in
the season. I'd rather mess with it when the boat is in my yard and the
season is over but if that is putting the engine at risk then that's not
an option either. I strongly suspect that it hasn't been replaced in
quite some time. The front one came out fairly easy and wasn't in bad
shape although I did replace it. The rear feels like it's welded to the
engine.

Jim,
Do you have the 3GM series?

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove the bolt which houses the rear
zinc on a Yanmar? It's stuck, and in mean really stuck. I replaced
everything else on the engine before I left Kingston, NY on Tuesday but
was afraid that I might not go anywhere this year if the head snapped on
the bolt. After numerous attempts over the last 4 weeks I decided to let
it be for the time being. My guess is that it hasn't been replaced in
quite some time due to the same problem I'm having with it. I might be
better off leaving it until haul out in October but wonder about the
damage it might cause to the engine if the zinc is played, which is
likely. The only thing I haven't tried is heat.
Thanks,
James Schueler
