Michael,
My thought is if we refurbish these derelict boats, they will sell for the
true value of an A30 and that helps maintain the value of ALL of the boats.

Doesn't that sort of go against my interests as an owner? I mean, if there
is a movement to keep unwanted, rummage sale value, beater boats in the
market stream, then the value of every boat is reduced. Law of supply and
demand, and all that.
Speaking for myself, my attachment for Checkmate goes way beyond
consideration of resale value, but perhaps it is an issue that everyone at
least needs to be aware of.
It looks to me, the two sides of the issue are 1. (or perhaps yin) keep as
many Albergs around as possible to have a pool of boats for one design
racing status or 2. (yang) let natural market forces reduce the number of
boats to owners who can appreciate a beautiful, versatile design and
maintain the boat as such.
I admit it, I'm inclined to elitism :)
