Hello fellow Albergers....
I have this problem and I wonder if anyone of you can send me some words of
enlightment or steer me in the right direction.
My Alberg 30 has a Volvo Penta Diesel (MD-7A) engine and to control speed
and shift gear, it has a single lever 3" long handle with a red ball
sticking out from a round nickel plated hob with flat sides.
From the center of this hub there is a Black Knob that moves 1/4" in and
out to engage the engine to the gear box. When the black knob is out....
the whole system is in neutral and by moving the Red ball lever one can
control the engine speed.
When the Black knob is pushed in and by moving the Red ball lever to the
left one can run the boat forward or switch (Stick Up) to neutral and
further movement to the right run the boat backward.
This is a very nice and simple system...I am sure that lots of you fellows
have this control unit on your boats or you have seen one on another boat
.....mine must be by now about 25 years old. This last month the control
unit got jammed up and the black knob got stuck in the middle of its movement.
Had to limp home by manual shift and some fancy docking with sails on.
Anyway, I am trying to find out what make of control this unit is ? Who
makes it ? and whether there are any drawings and spare parts available.
I have some literature stating that this control unit is a Teleflex Model
TM-1000 Control series (M-1093-D2 number from my casting) but after being
jerked around by Teleflex for the past two weeks by at least 8 different
persons from Canada,England,USA, to Sweden. Teleflex states that they do
not know what I am talking about and that they have no information related
to this TM-1000 Control series. This, really is a joke. If you fellows are
interested I can send you my whole correspondence about this matter.
My personal view is that if Teleflex does not know or does not make the
unit ....then some other company must make it and there must be some one
out there who has spare parts and information.Maybe even a new unit.
Looking forward for some input from our Alberg world out there.
Many Thanks
