I went through this on the list last year, and came up with the Bruce (or
inexpensive reproduction called a Claw) as the best thing for the A30 and
the Chesapeake. For one thing, it's much easier to clean the clayey mud of
the Claw then it is off a Danforth.
I have a 15kg (33lb) claw and feel quite confident in it - I'd be a lot
less confident without 30 ft of chain. I had a lot of trouble getting it up
at first, but now I bring the chain up and cleat it off, then have the XO
(you may have read about our 1st Mate Debate) power off. Works well.
I liked a quote from the salesman at Bacon's - " I kept buying bigger
anchors until everyone laughed at me for having too big an anchor - then I
knew I had the right one"

Subject: [Public-list] Anchors
Having just spent the night anchored off the Weepecket's in Buzzards Bay,
it
occurs that there may be better solutions and safer ones than I am using. I
have a 20 lb "plow anchor" with 5 feet of chain.
Any other favorites or weight combinations ? Thoughts, wisdom or advice ?
