I was sailing next to Second-2-Nun on the Choptank River when the port
forward chainplate pulled through his deck. He did not lose the mast, he was
lucky.

Dan,
Only failure I know of is when Yves Gélinas lost the mast on Jean-Du-Sud
while in the southern ocean. Chain plate pulled out of the deck; timberrr.
Perhaps reliance on the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy should
be disproportional to the distance one ventures from shore.

the chainplates to the bulkheads, but has there ever been a documented
failure.?i was staring at mine and they "appear" fine, but of course i
cannot see what is in the wood.
