[Public-list] Varnish Removal ?

I have found that a heat gun and scraper - together - are the best
combination. You should be able to get right down to wood. You really do
not need to go any farther as you do not want to spend your time
saturating the wood to bond properly with the varnish. Your bond will
nicely adhere to the freshly exposed varnish / wood combination --- though
do not forget to do a quick sanding over all to ensure you remove all
loose debris and provide some additional surface area. Follow the 7 coat
process with the first 2 being slightly thinned as per the varnish
instructions.
With the heat gun you will finish this job quickly on an Alberg 30. I did
this last year and 2 years prior to this ... it works wonderfully. I had
to redo the entire job last year doue to poor quality varnish. I have now
switched to epifanes. I inspected Infinity's wood last saturday and have
found it to be in very nice shape.
Good Luck!
