I cut a piece of teak to fill in the front of the "bottle holder" you
describe and then used a sabre saw to connect all of the holes on the top so
it is just one large oval hole. This makes a little compartment for
sungalsses, wallets, keys, suntan lotion, cell phone etc. Much handier than
the cup holder with cups filled with crap.

Good morning -
I have an old steam powered 'Eagle' hand held GPS that is mounted where it
sounds like you have your VHF radio mike. I drilled two holes in the teak
side of that bottle rack (that bottles don't fit into so we jamb the
binoculars there). The GPS gets snapped in by a short loop of bungie cord.
We find that is a convenient spot for the instrument to be - nice and handy
for glancing at from either in or out, and it hasn't been smacked yet.
Was moping around the boat yesterday - realized that this is the first
spring in 26 years that I am not going full stress getting the boat ready
for launching. I won't be in until the middle of July this year...
Cheers - Gord
