This month's edition of Good Old Boat has a good article about standing rigging tuning. I have been tuning my rigging on many boats for many years, never with a tension gauge. I have also re-read the "Survey of A30 Rig Tensions" from our Alberg website. I have already re-attached Emotional Rescue's chainplates with larger bolts and stronger bulkhead as previously recommended. I still have a number of questions.

  1. Why the large variation in tensions measured and recorded on the Survey?
  2. What tension would one use for a 1968 boat, #303. There are none in the 300 series.
  3. Does anyone know what the mast rake should be? As long as we have only enough weather helm does it matter?
  If it ain't broke...?
