Hi group,
Well, the time is finally approaching for our cruise through the
Chesapeake, from New York, and return. This is the trip I've mentioned
several times since joining this list. We only have 2 weeks to do this trip
and we're starting on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. We have two boats
going. Freinds are sailing a Vagabond 47 Ketch (Kalunamoo) and my wife and I
will be on our Landfall 39 Pilothouse Cutter (same as a Vagabond 39), Calico
Jack. Both boats draw about 5 1/2' although we both think 6'.
We start (and finish) our trip from Jamaica Bay, Brooklyn, New York (just
east of Coney Island a few miles). Our plan calls for a non-stop offshore
passage from NY to the mouth of the Chesapeake. Our first stop is planned at
Cape Charles, either anchored behind the breakwater at Kiptopeke Beach or
into Bay Creek Marina in town (they claim 7' MLW access).
Our next stop will be Reedville, anchoring at Sandy Point.
Then we'll cross over to Crisfield and stay at Somers Cove Marina for two
nights while we ferry over to Tangeir Island.
Next will be on to anchor at Solomans Island. We have planned two nights
there as well, but the second is basically a weather delay day that might
move.
The next day will be to Annapolis. We actually have three nights planned
in Mid Atlantic Mecca. (Bella, I hope to meet you at your boat either during
this stop or during the show weekend).
After Annapolis, we plan on moving up to the Sassafras River to anchor for
a night.
Next it will be on to Chesapeake City to rest for a few hours before
taking off (about 11:00 PM) to try to meet the currents in the Delaware.
The next night will be near Cape May. Maybe anchored/docked in Cape May.
Maybe just passing by the breakwaters to continue on coasting north to New
York. It all depends on the weather and our readiness to carry on into the
ocean and to home.
So, that's our plan (option C actually. A was very similar, and B is a
just in case the ocean is too snotty route). We're flexible as needed if
weather becomes a problem. OK, everybody / anybody, COMMENTS?
Looking forward vto your input,
