[Public-list] non-pressurized alcohol stove

Use methyl hydrate...half the price and it does not have the oil in the
"marine alcohol" (it is a throwback to when oil was needed to lubricate the
fittings).

Hi,

When I procured Caprice she came with a two burner Origo, non-pressurized
alcohol stove. I don't think it's the original stove. Currently, Origo
makes one that's model 4300cb (I think) that looks to be about the size on
Caprice. These stoves are great and very safe. Sure, it takes a little
longer to cook, especially if you're making a big pot of gumbo or beans, but
for most things the difference is negligable. I lived on my boat off and on
for extended periods and cooked frequently. I use Origo's soot free alcohol
which is expensive - but there's only a minor odor which I don't find
offensive, very little soot and it seems to last a long time.

  Best of luck,

  Bobby

I'm looking for a used two-burner alcohol stove, either drop in or
gimbaled, to replace a pressure kerosine stove. Though they're not as
hot as pressurized stoves, I like the simplicity. Has anyone converted
the drop-in configuration in the galley to take a gimbaled stove? Does
anyone have a stove they'd like to sell?
