I had a 155 made for the roller furler that I used for cruising and club races (South Florida winds average 10 - 15 knots). I had the foot measured so the it was inches below the life lines. This allow the sail to flop over the life line without skirting.  I was not concerned with visibility. Since Hurricane Katrina took that sail I had a 145 cut down from a friends cruising sail used on his Morgan 27'. The foot is much higher and provides better visibility. I'm no longer participating in club races so the performance is not so important.

Hi Folks,

I am working on the design for my new #2 with a sail maker and we are
discussing the question of clew height. He suggested a clew height for this
sail of 4 ft which he said would provide good visibility and good reaching
trim. The only reference I can find from previous discussions is someone
suggested a clew height of 6" above the top lifeline. I know that this is
one of the main points of discrepancy between various sail designs for this
particular sail, so I am wondering if anybody has an opinion on what this
dimension ought to be. All input is welcome!
