Is it a Harken roller furler? They had a design problem a while back with
round bearing in a square bearing race. When you "loaded' the system with
tension it would not turn. It is the main reason I chose Schaeffer.

A friend of mine was just having that problem on his furling jib. Tighten
the halyard, it won't roll. Loose halyard, it rolls but has lousy shape.
I don't have any real experience with this type of furling, so I won't
comment beyond my observation.
