Mike,

Bronze shafting is still available, if anyone gets into a bind. Contact
Scandia Prop. in Fairhaven MA. They manufacture from raw stock as does Rose
Marine in Gloucester, MA.

On a related note:

I was recently surprised to learn bronze drive shafts are no longer
available; at least, not at Kastell's and their providers. Every thing's
done with stainless now.

That is an issue here because the 'meat' the 3/8" pintle is screwed into is
a length of 1" bronze shafting (I guess you could say bronze stock-also not
available) that is attached to the bottom of the rudder. I have had to
replace that on Checkmate-I found the bronze easy to work, BTW.

I would suggest this is a new reason to scrounge around in boat yards. The
remains of an old shaft I have has become...priceless.
