First of all thanks to everyone for the quick replies. I do like the idea of
the articulating tiller as it would be useful to leave the auto pilot
engaged and have the tiller raised to add room in the cockpit. I did order a
Cat 27 till on line from a place called sailboatowners.com in Seattle.
Closer to me so I hope to receive it soon.
I have spent the past 6 months working on Putachieside. I have replace
rotten core from beneath on the fore deck and aft lazertte. I installed a
structural beam running perpendicular to the bulkhead forward in the chain
locker. As well I have refilled all the stanchion bases and rebedded all
hardware. I have replace and redrilled the chainplates and painted all the
non skid on the entire boat. The atomic 4 was rebuilt by Robert Hess of
Atomic 4 Engine Service in Ladner BC. New dripless seal, Campbell sailor, 72
amp alternator, pumps, electronic ignition- all the bells and whistles to
give it new life. The mast has been rewired, painted with new running
rigging etc. Still lots to do but ready to step the mast and launce this
coming weekend. I am not a professional and used the information in Don
Caseys books to help me. I stuck with vinyl (fiberglass) as it was easier to
use and not as expensive or finicky as epoxy. I could go on. I have pictures
if anyone wishes...Great to have all this information at my fingertips (my
wife and I owned a Vega previously and were fortunate to have access to a
similar website full of information from those who had gone before.

Cheers - Brian - Putachieside - 496

Or make one. I making an articulated tiller to be used with an autopilot.
I used mahogany and ash with my existing tiller as the template. Requires
just some basic woodworking skills and a few bucks for the hardwoods.
