[Public-list] Offshore Preparation

I rigged my Alberg 30 for offshore sailing. Somethings I refitted that I thought were important for offshore given the age and wear of my boat included the following:

  -Replaced chainplates
-rerigged standing and running
-removed plexiglass and installed lexan in all windows.
  -rebuilt forward hatch with lexan.
Something I should do is improve the cockpit drains. I was only pooped once but it drained really slow.

I don't think I'd go offshore in any sailboat without the following:
  -EPIRB
  -offshore liferaft
-back up handheld VHF and GPS kept in a faraday box of some sort.
  -SSB or Satelite radio
  -good foul weather gear
  -paper charts
