I don't know about average.  I guess it was about 15 years from when I 
first put in a bolt to when I replaced it.

Likely the "bronze" pin was really "naval brass."  Mine seemed to be, 
and it had turned to copper sponge at the end where the zinc was gone 
after 30 years.
