[Public-list] sheave pin and bushing diameter

For those of you who bought main halyard sheaves, I want to share my sheave
replacement experience.
My main halyard sheave bolt was 1/2" and the sheave I took out of the mast
had a 1/2" diameter hole in it. My cheek plates are welded in. Andrew told
me his were not. Also, Andrew's mast had a compression sleeve that fit over
the bolt and made the diameter a total of 5/8". I have no compression
sleeve.
I have drilled my tangs and mast out to 5/8" to accomodate the larger size
bolt. This was, to me, the most sensible of the following 3 options:
1. Find a bushing to make a 1/2" bolt shim out to 5/8" and fit that to the
sheave.
2. Order a new sheave with a 1/2" hole.
3. Drill out mast & tangs and use the larger bolt.
5/8"x5" is one heckuva bolt.
I just thought I would share that with the group. Since so many of us bought
sheaves, it is possible that other people in addition to me have masts with
1/2" bolts.
I am hoping to put my mast back up tomorrow. It's been down for almost 2
weeks while I have re-done a bunch of wiring and installed wind instrument
electronics (they came with the boat and I am just now getting round to
installing them...) and a combination tricolor/all around light at the
masthead.
Kind regards,
J Bergquist
