[Public-list] Replacing Wooden Spreaders

On Emotional Rescue #303, the wooden spreaders have a rectangular metal base, 1-1/2" x 3" x5-1/2" long. There are 2 holes near the end for securing the spreaders to the mast connectors. The spreaders are asymetrical looking up or down at them. When I lay the forward edge of the metal base on the floor, the entire front edge of the spreader touches the floor. When I do this to the rear edge, however, the rear edge of the wood tip is 2" off the floor (slopes back 2").
   
  The front of the spreaders are thicker than the trailing edge, similar to an airfoil.
   
  I believe that the spreaders protrude out on both sides of the mast, on the centerline, do NOT aim forward. They do, however, slope up so that the tip angles bisect the shroud equally.

2) Since I am making new spreaders, I can make them to any profile I want. Is there any reason they should be Asymetrical in profile(looking down from above)? I was just thinking about making them symetrical, and tapering them fore and aft similiar to an airfoil. 
3) Is there anything else I should consider while making these?

I'd appreciate any advice.
