[Public-list] Atomic four intake seacock location

Rachel,

This sounds like a lot of work, for little gain. I have not seen another A30
that has done this. Also, I would not remove the strainer from the outside
of the hull. On several occasions I was glad that I had it - one, was when I
sucked up a plastic bag on the intake and rather than getting logged in the
thru hull the outside strainer blocked it. All I had to do was shut off the
engine, wait a few moments until the bag fell off and restart the engine. On
another occasion I sucked up a small water snake in the head intake that
does not have a strainer. The snake was swining around in the toilet. I am
glad that I did not suck that guy up the engine intake. BTW, I also have a
small strainer on the engine intake line and think that is a good idea.

Subject: [Public-list] Atomic four intake seacock location

Hi folks,

I'm replacing my engine intake through hull and adding a seacock. I
have the original Atomic 4 engine. I plan to upsize to 3/4" from the
original 1/2".

My question involves the location of the through hull. My original is
on the port side of the bilge, right near the front of the engine - or
maybe a wee bit ahead of it. Since the water intake is on the
starboard side of the A-4, the hose came straight off the old valve,
ran across the bilge - partially obstructing the little bit of access I
did have - and then into the engine. There was no strainer save for
the round plate with holes in it over the outside of the through hull.

I'm wondering if there's a way to bring the water in from the starboard
side and thus increase my bilge access (meaning the little space
between the front of the engine and the after end of the cabin sole).
I realize it would have to make a pretty sharp turn, so perhaps there
wouldn't be much saving of space after I had the requisite 90º fitting
on the seacock.

To complicate matters, I'd like to add a raw water strainer inside the
boat, and eliminate the one on the outside of the hull. So that's more
space taken up and more connections. Perhaps better to leave it where
it is?

What does anyone else have for a set-up and how do you like it? Has
anyone else moved theirs? Did it work out for the better?

Thanks ahead,

Rachel
