We are outboard of the uppers. I use a piece of shroud that fits over the 
lifeline and held into position by some neatly done white rigging tape. It 
is a sacrifical piece, but save the lifeline.

Good morning Ed,

We run the lifeling outside the shrouds and lash them to the shrouds with
whipping twine.  That eliminates the chaff situation.
