I had a company in to soda blast the hull and it worked really well. The
crystals are about 10 times bigger than the Cow Brand in the fridge and
they work from the energy of the exploding crystal when it hits the
hull. There is no abrasion to gelcoat. The tools are the same as for
sandblasting but the usage is about 60 lbs an hour. It took about 3
hours by the time things were set up and dismantled. The most common
place to find a soda blaster is in the sandblasters or reconstruction
contractors section of the yellow pages or your fire insurance company
adjuster, because soda is used to clean up fire damage.
I did have to sand the gelcoat to get a bond for the barrier coat I
used. -Still have all my friends and no drain on the beer supply!
