Hugh,
On the Sea Scout 91 (which is most the most likely candidate) there is a
drain plug on the starboard side of the engine (your left when facing
the engine) down at the bottom of the block just above the oil pain
seam, more or less 50% of the way along the block. The plug is a bronze
plug with a hex head, probably a bit smaller than 1/2 inch. The way to
know you've found it is that it is in the middle of a thick
parallelogram (almost diamond) shaped plate with rounded corners which
is itself affixed to the block with another two hex headed bolts. The
drain is the center one which probably protrudes a bit more than the
others. I'm sure I have some photos of this at home as we had our
Graymarine out this year doing a rebuild. I'll send them directly to
you if I can find them.
I had a time trying to find it until I saw the engine out of the boat,
then it became obvious. Hope this helps.
Andrew

Hugh.
I am a little fuzzy on the location but I believe that the block plug
is on the port side about half way back on the engine, between the
second and third cylinders. On the manifold it is on the port aft
corner. These is no oil cooler to my knowledge. If you still have the
original cast iron muffler there is a drain plug on the bottom of that
as well. These are all 1/8" pipe plugs if I remember correctly. You
might need to poke a wire into the hole to clear debris away to have the
water drain. I would also poor anti freeze solution into any hose on
the top of the engine to fill the water system and then drain this as
well. This way if you don't get all the water drained then at least it
will be mixed with some anti freeze.

Good afternoon all,
I'm not sure what happened to my last post. The text does not seem to
have been transmitted to the list.
Our old Alberg came out of the water the day before yesterday. When I
went to winterize the motor I realized that the GrayMarine Maintenance
Manual leaves a bit to be desired in its information. While it says,
helpfully, "... current models have 3 drain plugs, on cylinder block, on
oil cooler and on exhaust manifold." it doesn't say where to look on the
block and I am not sure where to look for the oil cooler.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Cheers,
Hugh
