Mark,

We use an off-the-shelf 3-bow bimini from Boats-r-us, and it works fine. 
  It's a bit in the way when sailing, but that doesn't prevent me from 
sailing with it.  When sailing, I tie the aft end down at the ends of 
the traveler track to keep the lines out of the way of the mainsheet.
