Hi there -
Your genny will pucker over the lifeline - but everybody has put up with
that since the mid 70's when dipped lifelines were outlawed by racing rules
that require lifelines.
We carry our spinnaker sheets looped around the upright and over the dipped
lifeline... That forces them to cross the big gap in the pulpit and
increases the security. That is a practice that I learned crewing in my
younger days. I have also pushed the forward anchor point of the lifeline
up as far as it will go given the length of the wire. We have an
intermediate made of 3/16" braided line seized to the stanchions. I didn't
want to get involved drilling the SS tubes - they aren't very thick walled
and aside from possibly weakening them I would have had to deal somehow with
the sharp edges...
With regard to the rail - that sounds like a very good design.
