[Public-list] Voltmeter connection

Next time I see Tait Tait I want to connect a voltmeter next to the battery switch so I can check battery voltages easily.If I connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the common terminal of the battey switch then switch between 1 and 2  positions on the batteryswitch  will that work ,or must I put in an additona two position switch?l
