[Public-list] Mast beam repairs

There is a place in Baltimore that has drawings for the plates called
Waco Aluminum products. The guy you want to deal with is named Kirk
Wimer. You can get contact info at http://www.wacoproducts.com/. They
will cut the plates for you and can ship them right to you. Or you can
pick them up.

I just repaired my mast beam (with a LOT of help from Mike & Trish
Lehman, The whole Meinhold family, Phil Beigel, Bob Leigh, and Brian
Walter, to all of whom I am eternally grateful) a couple of weeks ago.
I bought the aluminum plates from Waco. They charged me just about
$500 for both of them.

Don't forget to make some wooden knees to brace the beam from below.
Mike did a beautiful job with this on my boat. I should put up
pictures...

My beam looked like swiss cheese. Mike said it was the worst looking
beam he had ever seen. So far the repair has held up with no
additional deflection. I have been measuring it regularly.

The beam repair is a big job. If you can get some assistance, it will
really make the job go more smoothly.
