[Public-list] What to do with expired flares

A friend and I joked a while ago that a shotgun might be an appropriate part
of safety gear... This was after we capsized an 18' dinghy in which we had
sailed out from Kingston to watch the CORK regatta years ago.  Dumping a
dinghy is not normally a big deal but this one had bad buoyancy tanks and
virtually sank as we were trying to right it.  A motor boat came along and
instead of helping, picked up our various floating gear (paddles, fenders,
etc) and stole them leaving us hanging in our life jackets.  We wished we
were armed.

We were eventually rescued by the CCG.
