Do you have any pictures of how this turned out?
Is your boat one of the older boats?
Did you use the same aluminum rail recommended in the article? 

Sooner or later I am going to have to do something with my rail.

A good rationale and plan for toe rail replacement can be found at  
http://pearson40.org/toerail_refit.htm  After reading this article, I  
chose to replace the teak with aluminum, glass the joint and move the  
genoa track just inside the toerail on the strengthened and stiffened  
part.  It is a good article and something to consider.
