Don,
I have beenreading your discourse here and have been thinking about the
stiffness of the hulls that I have: 2 #57 and #458
Currently 458 is in my backyard as I recently hauled it this year for
upgrading. I believe that 458 is a bit lighter than 57. I also know that
it is more flexible. When we placed jackstands for instance or if you
simply push on the hull at key locations you will find that there is flex
in the the hull. With Infinity - #57 there is little to NO flex in the
hull.
Different eras of the boat were built differently.
I do not know that I have a great answer on true stiffening however ...
placing stiffening "ribs along the hull will help in someways but to truly
reinforce - I would look at foam reinforcement with glass behind that for
your era hull - much like 458. If you had an earlier boat there the rib
method would be fine ... but I would not trust that exclusively on the
boat you have.
Some of the later boats were addressed to better techniques but the early
hulls were way overbuilt ans worthy of being parked on hte rocks without a
scratch. The later hulls ... today I am not so sure about mine as well.
Just my $.02
