I had the same problem on Tait Tait #478.The leak was where the rudder tube
comes through the glass of the hull.If you inspect the hull on the outside
immediately in front of the rudder you will see it is grooved vertically. On
Tait Tait this groove has a vertical crack running down it ,almost as though
the hull had been fabricate in two parts and joined.
While the boat was out of the water I carefully marked the leak on the
inside, cleaned the area around it with acetone and excavated the the hole
about 1/4 inch. Then the hole was dried thoroughly (a borrowed hair dryer was
useful) then the surrounding area was sanded and cleaned with acetone again
The hole was then filled with resin and the whole area around the tube was
covered with several layers of glass. This repair has lasted several
years. One day I shall drop the rudder and do a proper job from the outside.
