[Public-List] Spreaders

Steve,

Sounds like your spreaders are in good shape. Have you given them a good once over to make sure that there are no soft spots? Did you check the ends where the shroud passes through?

Personally I would remove them to make sure they are ok. It will be easier to paint them anyway. Hanging around in a bosun's chair while you prep badly worn paint and apply a number of coats will give you a whole new appreciation for boxer shorts.

Don Casey's Book This Old Boat I think is out in an updated re-print.Regardless of what version is out, It has many good answers toquestions like this - well worth the $$.

Subject: [Public-List] Spreaders

I'm new to the list, so I apologize if this has been asked recently.

I climbed the mast Sunday and checked the spreaders. Is there anything
special I should be looking for? I looked for cracks, rot, and paint. Do
they need to be removed to be certain they are in good shape? They need
to be painted, but otherwise seem to be ok.

Steve
