John,

Rolph Townsend Won the season championship 7 years in a row without a  
adjustable backstay.  set it with medium tension and leave it.   You  
spend that money better elsewhere.  Same goes for the traveler.   
Invest that money in a racing genoa that will fit your roller furler.   
This arrangement works very well.  I have one for my boat and for  
going around the buoys it ease's the load on the foredeck. hoist the  
spinnaker and roll the genoa.

Racing genoa and a smooth, clean bottom will get you the biggest bang  
for your buck.
