It seems to me from the responses on this list that perhaps the transducer does not have to be surrounded by a fluid.  My understanding was that they had to be in "very close",i.e., direct contact with the inner hull surface.  The main requirement was not to have any airspace between the transducer and the inside hull glass surface. A fluid would accomplish this, but it seems like others have used different methods with acceptable results.  I wonder if different mfg's of the transducers recommend different materials to attach them to the inner hull surface. 



For those using the pvc tube and fluid system.  I would think that a cap sized to fit the tube that you used could be placed on the end of the tube to prevent, slow down, the evaporation and spilling of the fluid.  A small hole for the transmitter wire could be made and sealed with putty.
