My first "real" boat was a 34 ft wooden Tancook Island (Nova Scotia)
schooner, built on Mahone Bay in 1928. Belonged at one time to Arthur
Fawcett, who the Annapolis contingent will recall as the founder of
Fawcett's boat chandlry. Name was Brigadoon. When Joan had twins we
had to sell her, that was in 1965. She went to as man named Nicholson,
who lived in Stonington, Connecticut, who re-planked her and re-engined
her. Years later we all, Joan, myself and the twins, had a day-sail on
the boat off Noank. Nicholson has since died and rumor has it that she
is still sailing (maybe laid-up) in the vicinity of New London. When we
had her she was white, but the traditional Tancook colors are a green
hull with yellow strake. She was gaff-rigged and had a topmast and we
set a topsail. Very attractive character boat. I wonder if anyone on
Long Island Sound has ever seen her and if she still exists?
(Brigadoon II is my Alberg)
